To celebrate Stelton's 50th Anniversary, Paul Smith re-worked designs from the Stelton Archives and Arne Jacobsen's Cylinda collection, giving them a refreshing and contemporary update. Danish designer Arne Jacobsen, best known for designing 'The Egg' and 'Number 7' chairs, is an exemplar of the 'Danish Modern' style. Paul Smith has long admired Jacobsen's work and was delighted to re-invent the now iconic Cylinda collection. The collection respects the integrity of the original design in hand polished stainless-steel while incorporating highlights of colour indicative of Paul Smith's innate sense of colour.
In this series, Paul Smith moves closer to his own design territory. Playfully combining colours as if conceiving a new fashion line, he struts industrial design down the catwalk of his imagination. Products include a range of bowls with and without lids, which are as decorative as they are practical. Dot bowls come in no fewer than nine colour ranges consisting of six colour variations each - three with lids and three without. The colour combinations are the result of close cooperation between Paul Smith and Stelton, a process that involved a plethora of combinations before the final colour constellations emerged.
With their brushed stainless steel exteriors, Paul Smith's Dot bowls are suitable for almost any job around the house. They are decorative as they are, but can also hold paper clips on the desk, cotton puffs in the bathroom, teabags in the kitchen, or snacks in the lounge. Add lids, and the bowls take on a whole new range of functions.
The colour is an enamel-like surfacing, which gives the depth, but it isn't fragile like old fashion enamel.
