The Kay Bojesen Drummer, re-released by Danish design company Rosendahl, was originally designed by
Kay Bojesen in 1942. The Royal Guardsmen have watched over the Danish castle since 1658; in bearskin,
red gala and the Danish cross on their fronts. The Drummer won the Formland Design prize in 1992, and
is a classic designer gift that will be passed on through the generations. The wooden Guardsmen wear the
colours of the Danish Royal Guardsmen with the approval of her majesty, Queen Margarethe of Denmark.
Kay Bojesen was originally a silversmith, and was an apprentice to Georg Jenson, before finding joy in
creating with wood. In the course of his exploration, he discovered wood as a material with very special
possibilities for industrial treatment and styling. This discovery led to the classic guardsmen and a
whole zoological garden taking shape between his hands. Kay Bojesen’s belief that design should have
life and soul, and that they should radiate humanity, warmth and vibrancy is reflected in his wooden
figurines and this collection has become iconic in Danish design. Kay Bojesen’s designs are
collectables and will be passed down the generations. They are the ideal gift, wherever life is being
lived and played: christenings, birthdays, graduations, weddings and anniversaries.
